France Trip 2017 - Montpellier

Montpellier
Arc de Triomphe
Panaromic shot of the Porte
It is a city that took us by surprise in many ways. I think it is the prettiest city out of the 4 that we visited in this trip (Nice, Marseilles, Montpellier & Toulouse).
It is a very vibrant and crowded city, filled with young people. The city buildings are beautiful and reminds me of Paris on a smaller scale.

It is also the coldest city, as the wind never stops blowing. Aka i'm wrapped up like an eskimo in all the pictures =)

At porte de Peyrou
Typical building at city center. Reminds me of Paris
Place de Peyrou
Montpellier is one of the most under-rated tourist destination in France
We stayed in Comedie center and it felt safer than Marseilles. I didn't feel as nervous walking the streets at night and we went out till quite late for the 2 nights that we were there.

When we got into the bus station, we took the tram to go into the city center and the tram is very clean and efficient. Very impressive.

We had a decent late lunch at 2pm at the cafe d'arts.

Bill realized that wine bars serve very good food for a reasonable price in France. It's a similar concept to tapas in Spain. We ended up going to L'Amuse Vin for dinner that night and it was a fabulous meal with shrimp, scallops, beef tataki, tasting platter and good wine!

The next day is my day of crepes! We started off sightseeing and stopped at a cafe for crepe and hot tea to warm up from the chill.
Van Gogh cafe for crepe with nutella and chestnut jam
After that we went to the Musee Fabre and spent 2 hours looking at Fine Arts

Artwork that caught my eye
The old town in Montpellier is quite grand, especially with the cathedral.
We were told that the medical college next to the cathedral might be the oldest and one of the best medical school in Europe

One of the streets in old Town. Girona?
After that, we stopped at the Christmas market and had a Spinach crepe that was excellent together with a duck breast sandwich. Chatted with a lady who just moved to Montpellier in August and she gave us some insights to the city.

We were not able to get a food tour in Montpellier as the guide is on vacation. But she told me that Bruno Liegard has fabulous tarts and it is impressive! Easily one of the best tart in my life! Raspberries with pistachios and hazelnut chocolate tart

We continued the theme of wine bar and ended up at La Robe Rouge for dinner that night, with scallops Risotto and tasting platter as we are still full from lunch and tarts!

Saw some funny signs in Montpellier as well as some good art in buildings!
Reading this blog, i realized we missed the Space Invaders street Art. grr.. I need to go back to Montpellier, for the food tour, the cathedral and finding the Space Invaders =)
