Thailand trip 2019 Day 2 - Bangkok

Bangkok city - Grand palace etc
Grand palace entrance
Today is a free and easy day for us to get some sight seeing around Bangkok.
We decide to do a tourist boat pass that bring us to tourist attraction and bypass the crazy Bangkok traffic.

Grand palace
Ticket of the grand palace
The Grand palace and Emerald Buddha Temple
It's so crowded that no wonder Pi say it's like Disneyland.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Palace
The view of the palace/temple is great from the water.
P gave some information last night about palace. The King no longer lives here and it's for tourist visits at this point. But every 3 months, the King still comes back to the Emerald Buddha to bless every season change.
View of the grand palace from the river
Emerald temple + crazy amount of tourists

The grand hall that is less over run by tourist
This one caught my eye with all the folks supporting the gold =)
Corner of the palace showcasing the palace and temple architecture in one shot
World's most harassed guard that can't move while being photographed by tons of chinese toursits
While it's architecture looks great, it is impossible to enjoy the palace when it's over-run with people yelling and talking loudly.
We got out of the palace as fast as we can and we have checked a box that says we have now seen the Grand Palace =)
Bill cooling off in the shade
Favour Cafe where we got cold smoothies to cool off
Yummy smoothies
We decide to skip Wat Arun and Wat Pho since we have seen those at night and don't feel like we need to see it in the day time.

Golden Buddha Temple
Golden Buddha
So we made our way to China town to see the golden Buddha.

Lots of interesting history and mystery with this statue, surviving war and finally relocating itself to Chinatown Bangkok. 45 million worth of gold!
Buddha in pure gold, survived the war and got rediscovered
Had lunch along the way and tried to survive the weather by having a massage from 2pm to 3pm to avoid the heat and humidity
Yummy lunch at China town Scala with roast duck, stir fried veg and shrimp Vermecelli in clay pot
At night, we made our way to Asiatique and had fun shopping and eating street food there. I do like the ambience there.
Asiatique with Bangkok backdrop
Sunset in Asiatique
Dinner with Sea bass omelette cooked South East Asian style
I also notice all the Bangkok vendors no longer mark up crazy prices at night market but just quote a fix price that's very reasonable. This is a much better system and i enjoy not having to worry about haggling prices anymore!
Customized passport holder that cost < $4
