Thailand trip 2019 Day 3 - Bangkok outskirts -Floating market and Ayutthaya

Day 3 - Floating market and Ayuthaya
Today we decide to take a day tour and get out of Bangkok.

Tombs of the 3 kings in Ayuthaya ruins
First stop is the floating market in Damneon Saduak and then to Ayutthaya national park.

Damneon Saduak
The floating market is an interesting tourist trap. It looks like it hasn't been a functional market for a long time but been catered for tourism.
Boats in the canal

We took the paddle boat before the canal got crowded and got back right on time in 30 mins.
Rows of vendors in the floating market
Looking at the boats craziness.. talk about bumper to bumper!
A monk getting alms from the shop keeper in the morning
Subsequently the canals just got so crazy packed that nobody can go anywhere.
It's a tad hilarious taking pictures of the boat-jam!

Had some noddles and fabulous mango sticky rice at the market for about $5 for the 2 of us. yum.. the cooking operations on some of these boats are amazing, considering how limited the space is and the lack of movement.

$2 mango sticky rice that's fabulous
We also had fun playing with a flying squirrel that belongs to one of the vendor. It is trying to sleep and eat at the same time, super cute!

I was not sure what to expect but the extent of the ruins and the quality of restoration is quite good and we enjoyed wondering around the park.
We went to 3 temples.

The first one is the reclining buddha.

A standing buddha that's fairly well preserved in the same park
The 2nd one is the bronze buddha that's been the most well restored in terms of building quality
Example of a building quality in Ayutthaya

The 3rd one is the main ruins area that contains relics. Most impressive ruins and it also has a buddha head in a bodhi tree.

Another great and sweaty day and we were glad to be home and showered by 9pm.
